Hillside Landscaping and Nursery was started around 1970 by John Mack. John moved to Petaluma from southern California and invested in several residential properties. One of his approximately 3 acre parcels was on a hillside where he grew nursery stock and began a landscape company, he named it Hillside Landscaping. In the fall of 1975 Bruce Schneider, fresh out of high school and full of ambition was looking for work and joined John Mack. Bruce loved the work and John quickly became his mentor, and in 1979 bought the company from John. Bruce loved the nursery and landscaping business and built on what John had taught him. After forty years and hundreds of landscaping installations Bruce decided he needed a manager to assist him. That manager was Mitch McKinley. Mitch was selected for the job because it was clear that he possessed the experience, character, intelligence and other intangibles that made him the perfect choice. Bruce had been feeling that he would like to step back from running the landscape business and the decision was made several years into Mitch's employment to sell the Landscape business to Mitch and continue growing and managing plants in the nursery.  Mitch is now the Sole owner of Hillside Landscaping, building on the fifty year tradition of building wonderful sanctuaries for families and individuals throughout the north bay. Mitch is a very special person, possesses great skill and honesty, is a family man and the perfect person to be the new owner.
